“GREEN CITIES WITH YOUNG MINDS” TRAINING WORKSHOP WAS HELD
On April 28, 2026, the Turkmen State Architecture and Construction Institute hosted a training workshop titled “Green Cities with Young Minds“, jointly organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Turkmen State Architecture and Construction Institute. The event welcomed students from the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and other higher education institutions across the country.
The workshop was designed to align with new developments in Turkmenistan’s urban planning sector. Its primary goals included: enhancing the ecological awareness of the youth and preparing students to design the “green“ and “smart“ cities of the future.
The session continued with a discussion themed “Visions for a Sustainable Urban Future“. Key speakers included: Jemal Durdyyeva, Project Specialist at the UNDP, Azat Saryyev, Founder and Lead Architect of “SARY Architects”, Gulshat Ayydova, Organizer of the Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change (LCOY-Turkmenistan), Leyli Garlyyeva, Founder of the “White City Ashgabat” website.
During the exchange, experts and students discussed sustainable architecture, climate change mitigation strategies, and the promotion of sustainable urban concepts through digital technologies.
The second half of the program was dedicated to interactive games and practical assignments. Participants took part in the “My sustainable city” game and the “5 Second Rule” competition, which were designed to foster teamwork and rapid decision-making skills.
This initiative provided an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 11, 13, and 17). It significantly enhanced their capacity to express ideas on a global level regarding sustainable development.
