Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality – The Foundation of Peace and Sustainable Development
On March 27, 2025, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a conference titled “Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality – The Foundation of Peace and Sustainable Development”. The event was dedicated to the unanimous adoption of the Resolution on Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality for the third time at the 61st plenary meeting of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The conference was jointly organized by the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, and representatives from the country’s academic, sports, healthcare, and cultural institutions. It gathered officials from these sectors, along with representatives of public organizations, mass media, experienced diplomats, professors, and students.
As previously announced, on March 21, 2025, in New York City, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the Resolution on Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality at its 61st plenary meeting of the 79th session. This historic decision once again reinforced Turkmenistan’s international reputation.
During the conference, speakers emphasized the significance of this milestone, particularly as it coincides with the International Year of Peace and Trust, the 80th anniversary of the UN’s establishment, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s recognition as a permanently neutral state. They proudly highlighted that this development marks a major achievement in the country’s international political strategy and a remarkable success of Turkmen diplomacy.
Over the years, under the leadership of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Hero Arkadag, and the esteemed President of Turkmenistan, the country has taken significant humanitarian-based initiatives to promote global peace and security. Notably, nearly 30 resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan have been unanimously adopted at the United Nations, an achievement that was particularly underscored during the conference. The discussions included detailed presentations on historical milestones and the key priorities of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the UN.
Additionally, the conference featured an interactive questions and answers session between the speakers and university professors and students, who participated online, further enhancing the event’s engagement. The program also included artistic performances and musical presentations, glorifying the nation’s Permanent Neutrality and the remarkable efforts led by the National Leader and the Esteemed President in maintaining peace and stability.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants expressed their deep appreciation for the outstanding contributions of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Hero Arkadag, and the President of Turkmenistan Arkadagly Hero Serdar in elevating the country’s international prestige and promoting the Turkmen model of neutrality worldwide.
