A SPORTS COMPETITION ENTITLED “SPORT IS AN AMBASSADOR OF PEACE” WAS HELD
On June 2, 2025, a sports competition among the students entitled “Sport is an Ambassador of Peace” was held on the occasion of World Bicycle Day at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, which was organized by the UNESCO Club of the institute “Culture of Peace.”
It’s widely known that June 3 was declared as “World Bicycle Day” at the initiative of Turkmenistan. Furthermore, at the 61st plenary session of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Resolution “Integration of mainstream bicycling into public transportation systems for sustainable development” was unanimously adopted. These developments, along with election of Turkmenistan as a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Culture and Sport for 2023-2027, clearly demonstrate recognition of international community the country’s efforts in sports development.
During the event, competitions in various sports were organized. This widespread engagement clearly demonstrates continued commitment of Turkmenistan in this new historical era to developing sports, promoting sports diplomacy and encouraging physical activity among its youth.
