INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE
On February 9, 2026, the “Culture of Peace” UNESCO Club organized a conference at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to mark the “February 11 — International Day of Women and Girls in Science”. The event was attended by Tazegul Hapyzova, Gulalek Hangeldiyeva from the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Ogultach Oraztaganova, section editor of the “Watan” newspaper, as well as students of the Institute.
During the conference, speakers emphasized that under the wise leadership of our Honorable President, in the era of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State, special attention is paid to developing the science and education system and strengthening the role of youth, especially women and girls, in the world of science. As is well known, every year on February 11, the global community celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science which was established by the United Nations in 2015.
Today, innovation and new technologies form the core of the global economy. Therefore, increasing the representation of women in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is not just a matter of equality, but it is also an essential condition for solving future environmental and healthcare challenges. Officially proclaimed by the UN on December 22, 2015, this date is based on UNESCO data showing that women make up only about 33% of researchers worldwide.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants noted with pride that the role of Turkmen women in the international scientific community is strengthening year by year. The participants expressed their deep gratitude to our Hero Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar for the excellent conditions and great opportunities created to develop the education system and enhance the status of women in society.
