OSCE CENTRE IN ASHGABAT HOSTS SEMINAR FOR STUDENTS
On April 13-14, 2026, the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat hosted a two-day training seminar titled “Youth Leadership and Climate Diplomacy: the OSCE Model Negotiations”. This event was organized within the framework of the OSCE project “Strengthening co-operation in the area of climate change, environmental good governance and environmental security”.
The seminar was attended by students and faculty members from the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the International University for Humanities and Development, the Yagshygeldy Kakayev International Oil and Gas University, and the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology.
The primary objective of the training was to strengthen youth representatives’ understanding of the linkages between climate change and security, as well as to enhance their practical skills in dialogue, negotiation, and consensus-building. During the sessions, students attended presentations by international experts on various climate security topics. In the practical segment, participants simulated an OSCE-model decision-making process, representing different countries to defend national interests and participating in two rounds of negotiations to draft a council decision.
Throughout the seminar, students demonstrated high levels of engagement and proficiency in English, gaining valuable experience as future diplomats in the fields of international environmental policy and diplomacy.
