INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “PEACE AND TRUST – PRINCIPLES OF HUMANITY”
On October 3, 2025, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted the international conference “Peace and Trust – Principles of Humanity,” organized by the UNESCO Club “Culture of Peace.” Members of the UNESCO chairs and clubs operating in the country, faculty members, and students of the Institute took part in it.
Before the start of the conference, participants viewed exhibits of national applied arts and creative works that reflected ideas of prosperity and peace, displayed in the Main hall of the Institute.
The conference was opened with a welcome speech by Chinar Rustemova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and Hero of Turkmenistan. Speeches were delivered by Gulshat Yusupova, Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan; Dmitry Subselny, President of Belarusian Association of the UNESCO Clubs; Sabina Akzharova, Vice-President of Kazakhstan National Federation of Clubs for UNESCO; Lyudmila Savicheva, President of the Accreditation Committee of Clubs for UNESCO under the auspices of Commission of the Russian Federation; Rizo Sadykov, representative of Tajikistan National Federation of Clubs for UNESCO; Mustafa Sewer, Vice-President of the Education Committee of the Turkish National Committee for UNESCO; Oruntay Oshanova, Head of the UNESCO Chair in Journalism and Communication at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University; Bike Divankuliyeva, Head of the UNESCO Chair “Cultural Heritage: From Past to Future” at Magtymguly Turkmen State University; Ogulsabyr Berdiyeva, Head of the UNESCO Club “Languages of Peace” at Dovletmammet Azady Turkmen National Institute of World Languages and others.
The speeches emphasized the recognition at the international level of outstanding examples of Turkmen art, including the architectural monuments of Kunya-Urgench, Nisa, and Merv, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as intangible cultural values such as the epic art “Gorogly,” the “Kushtdepdi” song and dance ritual, and the carpet weaving art of Turkmen women. These cultural values, literary, and historical sources have been widely studied and promoted globally. Thanks to the far-sighted domestic and foreign policy and wisdom of the esteemed President, this work has played an important role in enriching the spiritual world of the people and strengthening the boundless respect of citizens for the Motherland, their native land, and the glorious path of their ancestors.
Cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO, one of the main bodies of the United Nations, has been consistently developing for many years. Since August 17, 1993, when Turkmenistan joined the UNESCO Convention, the country has been a full member. This distinguished organization holds a leading position in the international effort to preserve cultural monuments and natural landscapes, while creating conditions for open cooperation based on respect for universal values and the dignity of every nation.
Multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations is a key direction of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy strategy, pursued by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. At its core lie the principles of positive neutrality and broad international cooperation. At the current stage, this partnership is reaching new levels and gaining greater substance.
At the end of the conference, an Appeal to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was adopted on behalf of the participants.
