INTERNATIONAL DAY OF LIGHT
Every year on May 16th, the International Day of Light is celebrated all over the world. This international day was officially declared by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
There is a reason why this historical date was chosen. On May 16, 1960, the famous American physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman, successfully operated a laser beam for the first time in human history. The invention of this technology created a revolution in many fields, ranging from medicine to communications and space exploration.
Light and sustainable energy are the main power of for moving of technology in the development of the modern world. This International day is the origin of modern technologies like optics and photonics (the science of light). Clean energy obtained through solar panels, being essential for fiber-optic cables that power the internet, screens smartphone and computer, of environmental protection, and standing against global warming, is the most crucial element for the future of the Earth.
Light is the most fundamental artistic tool in architecture, painting, cinema, theater, and design. It helps to present the human cultural heritage and beauty.
The core purpose of celebrating the International Day of Light is to increase the attainment of the youth in physics, technology and innovation all over the world, and to focus their attention on protecting nature through solar energy and energy-efficient lighting systems.
Light is considered not only a physical beam, but also a symbol of science, culture, and peace. Consequently the International Day of Light represents the wonderful opportunities that scientific growth brings to humanity.
