INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE ADOPTION OF THE “UNITED NATIONS GAMES” RESOLUTION BY THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY, INITIATED BY TURKMENISTAN AND INDIA
On 31 October 2024, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted an international conference on the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of a resolution titled ‘United Nations Games’ on the initiative of Turkmenistan and the Republic of India.
This high-level conference was participated by heads and representatives of the diplomatic service of Turkmenistan, diplomatiс missions of foreign countries and international organizations in Turkmenistan, political parties and public organizations, rectors of higher educational institutions, editors of newspapers and magazines of our country, foreign journalists, as well as teachers and students of our institute.
This conference was dedicated to one of important international documents testifying to the unanimous support of the entire world community for the initiatives of our Motherland aimed at global development, security and peace based on humanitarianism, mutual prosperity and friendship.
During the conference Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Jalpa Ratna, Representative of United Nations Children's Fund in Turkmenistan, Mrs. Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Turkmenistan, Andrey Hanzhin, Adviser on political issues of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Atajan Burunov, Head of the Department of Social Sciences of the Magtymguly Turkmen State University, Hydyr Nunnayev, Rector of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Education and Sports and the famous coach of Turkmenistan, international referee, international sports master Shohrat Mammedov made a speech about the decision of UN and its further importance.
As is well known, since the day our country became a member of the United Nations, Turkmenistan has put forward many initiatives for the benefit of all humatity at both the regional and global levels. Many of these initiatives have been adopted in the form of international documents such as resolutions and decisions at the General Assembly of the United Nations, which is known as an important platform for conducting negotiations between world states.
During the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the adoption of the Resolution entitled "United Nations Games" based on the initiative of Turkmenistan and India fully testifies to this statement. This Resolution will make a significant contribution to the development of cooperation in the field of sports, which is the core of human health, among member states with the support of the United Nations. It should be noted that this resolution is also aimed at establishing a solid platform for the implementation of sports diplomacy on the UN platform - one of the main priorities of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy. In this regard, the joint initiative of the two friendly nations demonstrates that Turkmen-Indian relations are expanding day by day not only bilaterally but also in a multilateral format.
The organization of this international conference was an important event, primarily, for highlighting the development of bilateral and multilateral relations of our permanent state and the constant support for the international initiatives it promotes.
