A VISIT TO THE HISTORICAL MONUMENT OF NISA FORTRESS
On October 7, 2026, a visit to the Nisa State Historical and Cultural Reserve was jointly organized by the UNESCO Club “Culture of Peace,” the Young Scholars Council, the “Wisdom and Intellect” and “Young Journalists” scientific and creative clubs, and the School of Young Diplomats of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the visit, specialists provided the students with interesting information about the historical significance of the Nisa State Historical and Cultural Reserve, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007.
As is well known, the fortresses of Old Nisa and New Nisa, which hold an important place in history, are becoming increasingly well known today. Nisa, whose origins date back to ancient times, is located on the outskirts of present-day Ashgabat and was the capital of the ancient Parthian state.
During the visit, the students learned that excavations conducted by expeditions led by the renowned scholar M. E. Masson, together with the archaeological evidence and discoveries uncovered during these excavations, revealed to the world the grandeur of the buildings of Old Nisa, the capital of the Parthian state. The scholar uncovered the remains of a columned hall, temples, and fortifications, as well as documents written in the Persian language using the Aramaic script. He also revealed valuable evidence concerning the daily life of the Parthians and their rich Hellenistic artistic heritage.
The information about these discoveries generated great interest in this ancient reserve, which, despite the passage of centuries, continues to retain its historical significance. The visit was filled with impressive and unforgettable moments.
