The Linguistic Legacy of Mahmud Al-Zamakhshari through the Prism of Modern Science and Education
On May 20, 2026, the Department of World Languages at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a scientific-creative conference entitled “The Significance of Mahmud Al-Zamakhshari’s Literary Heritage in Linguistics”. The event gathered university lecturers from across Turkmenistan, researchers from the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, and young scholars. M.Atajanova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of World Languages, moderated the conference.
The main goal of the conference was to analyze Mahmud Al-Zamakhshari’s literary and linguistic heritage using modern linguistic methods. It also aimed to celebrate his role in world culture and the Eastern Renaissance, and to help young researchers improve their scientific and creative skills to meet international standards. Participants discussed the significance of the scholar’s famous works, such as “Al-Mufassal”, “Asas al-Balagha”, and “Muqaddimat Al-Adab” in global linguistics. They also talked about how these works can be used to teach patriotism and humanism to the younger generation. Furthermore, participants listened to speeches on how to improve teaching methods for both general and professional education programs. These improvements focused on organizational, innovative, pedagogical, and scientific approaches, as well as on developing the creative abilities of young people. A special emphasis was placed on the practical value of combining the methodological, lexicographical, and phraseological concepts from “Asas Al-Balagha” with modern cultural linguistics and contemporary methods of teaching foreign languages, particularly Arabic.
At the end of the meeting, participants proposed important ideas for including Mahmud Al-Zamakhshari’s linguistic heritage in modern textbooks and electronic dictionaries, and they adopted relevant scientific resolutions. The participants expressed their sincere gratitude to our Hero Arkadag, and our Arkadagly Hero Serdar for their continuous support in developing science and education in the country and for promoting Turkmenistan’s classical heritage worldwide.
