French Language Day Celebrated within the Framework of Language Week
On April 21, 2026, French Language Day was celebrated at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan as part of the ongoing language week titled «Languages – A Bouquet of Friendship». Organized by the Department of World Languages, these events play a crucial role in increasing youth interest in linguistic studies and facilitating the mutual exchange of experience in this field.
During the week, a special «French Language Corner» was established. First-year students recited poems about the Motherland in Turkmen, Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. A particular highlight of the ceremony was the recitation of Hero Arkadag's poem «Turkmenistan – Homeland of Peace and Trust» in both Turkmen and French, as well as French translations of Magtymguly Pyragy's poetry, which greatly enriched the content of the event.
Currently, the National School of Turkmen Diplomacy pays special attention to the French language, as it is widely considered the language of diplomacy. Notably, French is one of the official languages of the UN and UNESCO, as well as a working language for numerous international organizations. In this regard, a dedicated exhibition was organized featuring French textbooks, student-prepared wall newspapers, books by Hero Arkadag translated into French, and a model of the Eiffel Tower.
In accordance with the program, students presented proverbs in various languages and shared engaging presentations regarding Turkmen-French relations and the national symbols of France. Furthermore, performances based on the poems of Victor Hugo and the fables of Jean de La Fontaine showcased the students' linguistic proficiency and creative talents. Video screenings dedicated to the International Organization of La Francophonie and talent competitions held this day were instrumental in further boosting the students' enthusiasm for learning of foreign languages.
In conclusion, celebrating French Language Day within the «Languages – A Bouquet of Friendship» Language week not only enhances students' language skills but also broadens their global cultural outlook and increases interest in Turkmen-French diplomatic relations. By fostering intercultural understanding among future diplomats, these activities highlight the enduring significance of the French language.
