World Space Week
World Space Week is an international event celebrating the contributions of science and technology to the advancement of humanity.
On October 10, 1967, the "Treaty on Principles Governing the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Celestial Bodies" was signed by several countries and entered into force. The United Nations announced it as "World Space Week".
Another reason why Space Week is celebrated in October is related to Sputnik-1, the first man-made satellite successfully launched into space. It was flown by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957. The launch of Sputnik-1 is considered an important milestone in space exploration.
World Space Week is celebrated every year with events organized by space agencies, airlines, schools, universities, museums and astronomy centers around the world. As a result of these activities, the awareness of young people in the fields of technology, engineering and education such as mathematics, astronomy and physics increases and their interest in these sciences increases.
Nowadays, astronomy is given great attention in all countries of the world. Thus, a lot of work is being done to study celestial bodies, planets, and carry out fundamental scientific research in space.
