Thanks to the great efforts of the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan is actively integrating into the international educational space. The improvement of the education system in the country, bringing it into line with international standards, and the expansion of cooperation with the world's leading higher educational institutions are considered one of the priority areas.
Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation in the fields of science and education has a long historical experience. This cooperation is an important component of the strategic relations between the two states. In this regard, cooperation with the leading higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation occupies a particularly important place.
From April 21 to 23, 2026, a delegation of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan visited the Russian Federation. During the visit, talks were held with the Rector of the Moscow State Institute (University) of International Relations, A.V. Torkunov. The meeting focused on key areas of bilateral cooperation, as well as prospects for joint activities between higher education institutions engaged in training specialists in the field of diplomacy.
In addition, the Turkmen delegation held a meeting with A.V. Sternik, Director of the Third CIS Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. During the discussions, particular emphasis was placed on support for initiatives put forward by higher education institutions aimed at further developing and strengthening bilateral cooperation. The delegation also visited the museum at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, dedicated to the history of Russian diplomacy.
A round table was held at the Moscow State Institute (University) of International Relations with the participation of the Turkmen delegation and Russian experts. Within this framework, the dynamic development of Turkmen–Russian cooperation in science and education was noted, and promising areas for further collaboration were discussed.
The visit of the Turkmen delegation to the Russian Federation is a clear demonstration of the significant efforts undertaken by Hero Arkadag and the esteemed President of Turkmenistan to advance the country’s international cooperation in the field of education.
