A HEARTFELT PRIDE
On December 12, 1995, Turkmenistan became the first neutral country recognized by the United Nations. This date is widely celebrated as the International Day of Neutrality. Based on the far-sighted initiatives of the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the efforts of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, our country effectively develops strategic cooperation with this large international organization. The initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan find unanimous support from other countries and result in the special UN resolutions.
Development of cooperation and friendship is characterized as the basic principle of peaceful life. Supporting peace in the world, promoting sustainable development, and strengthening friendly and close relations are the key features of the Turkmen model of neutrality.
The recognition of the legal status of Turkmenistan as permanently neutral country for the third time provoked pride of our compatriots this year. This fact demonstrated that the international community unconditionally supports the legal status of our country and that neutrality is widely recognized as an effective tool for strengthening global peace and security.
