WORLD TOURISM DAY
On the 27th of September every year, the world celebrates the World Tourism Day. The first World Tourism Day in 1980 was dedicated to the impact of the tourism industry on the preservation of human cultural heritage. The reason for World Tourism Day is to cultivate and create awareness among the society globally on the significance of tourism and it’s social, political, financial and also cultural worth and value. The occasion tries to address common difficulties stated by the United Nations of Millennium Development Goals. It is also to feature and recognize the commitment the tourism industry can make in achieving these objectives.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a leading UN international agency in the field of tourism. Its mission is to promote tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide. Discover how they are working to cope with this pandemic along with the tourism sector and other UN agencies.
In this year 2022 the official World Tourism Day celebration was held in Bali, Indonesia, on 27 September, highlighting the shift towards tourism being recognized as a crucial pillar of development. This year World Tourism Day is emphasize by the theme “Rethinking Tourism”. It aims to inspire the debate around rethinking tourism for development, including through education and jobs and tourism’s impact on the planet and opportunities to grow more sustainably.
Tourism employs one in every ten people on Earth. International tourism saw a strong rebound in the first five months of 2022, with almost 250 million international arrivals recorded. This means that the sector has recovered almost half (46%) of pre-pandemic 2019 levels. Tourism is the most important area of social policy is also the development of the state. As it is known, Turkmenistan is a country with large potential for an expanded tourism industry.
The main task of the State Committee on Tourism of Turkmenistan is to promote international tourism as the most profitable areas of the tourism industry. In particular, the National Tourist Zone "Avaza", the attractions of Koytendag district, the Karakum desert, the canyon of Sumbar and others. To date, three major sites of historical and architectural significance - Kunyaurgench, Merv and Nisa - included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Each of them is a huge cultural and scientific value and all of them have long been favorite places for foreign visitors.
On May 1, 2020, the capital of Turkmenistan, the city of Ashgabat, joined the membership of the World Federation of Tourist Cities (WFTG). Membership in this reputable international tourism organization opens up new opportunities for the city in the development and popularization of various tourist destinations and the development of the city's tourist appearance.
